Kashmir University Opens 3rd Semester Admissions; Check Rules for Changing Major, Minor, or MD Subjects

Srinagar, 24 July: Kashmir University has formally opened the registration process for students entering the 3rd semester of the Four-Year Undergraduate Programme (FYUGP) under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. This notification applies not only to the current Batch of 2024 but also provides a fresh opportunity for students from earlier batches ranging from 2015 to 2023 who had completed their 1st and 2nd semesters or appeared in one-year annual exams but did not seek admission into the 3rd semester at that time.

The registration process is scheduled to begin from 25 July 2025 and will conclude on 2 August 2025. Students must take this window seriously and complete their registration, subject selection, and fee payment without delay. Missing the deadline could result in the cancellation of their admission status.

To be eligible, students must have maintained the required attendance percentage in the preceding semester. For students from earlier sessions who wish to transition into this new system, specific guidelines must be followed. The university has also made it clear that students studying under the older CBCS system and now joining the FYUGP will be required to complete the Skill Enhancement Courses (SECs) from the 1st and 2nd semesters as deficiency components.

The registration process will primarily take place at the respective college’s Information Cell. This is where students must go in person to verify their documents, get support in subject selection, and receive important clarifications regarding the curriculum or form submissions.

Students are required to carry the following documents in hard copy:

  • 12th Class Marks Certificate
  • Aadhaar Card or ABC ID
  • Voter ID Card
  • Enrollment Sheet (for 2024 batch) or downloaded admission form (for previous batches)
  • Printed copy of the fee payment receipt

The subject selection process is an essential part of this semester’s admission. Each student must choose a combination of one Major subject, one Minor subject, a Skill Enhancement Course (SEC), and a Multidisciplinary Course (MD). The MD course must not be one already studied at the 10+2 level or chosen in previous semesters. Moreover, students must select an Ability Enhancement Course (AEC) from among approved Modern Indian Languages (MILs), including Urdu, Arabic, Kashmiri, or Persian.

It’s also important to note that students have the option to switch between Major and Minor subjects during admission into the 3rd or even 4th semester. However, this switch is not automatic and requires official approval from the Admission Coordinator of the respective college. This flexibility allows students to better align their academic path with evolving interests or career goals.

Once the subject selection is complete, the college will assign subjects online. Students must visit the MyFormStatus page on www.kashmiruniversity.net using their university registration number to view the assigned subjects. If the listed subjects do not match the student’s selected choices, they must immediately report to their college Information Cell for correction. This must be done before any fee is paid. Once the fee is submitted, no changes can be made.

The fee payment must be done through the university’s online portal. While physically challenged and orphan students are exempt from the examination fee, they are still required to pay registration and allied charges. For these students, there is also an option to deposit the fee through the traditional receipt mode at the college if required.

Kashmir University has also announced that students must submit their subject combinations for the 4th semester at the time of admission to the 3rd semester. These combinations should include three Major subjects (Type 1, 2, and 3) and one Minor subject, as outlined in Annexure V.

The academic calendar will follow the schedule released by the Higher Education Department. This ensures that all colleges follow a uniform pattern and students across the region stay aligned in their academic journey.

If any student faces difficulty with online submissions or subject selection, they are encouraged to visit their college’s Information Cell along with original documents. Staff will be available to provide technical and academic assistance.

This semester’s curriculum emphasizes a balanced approach by combining disciplinary depth (Major and Minor subjects), skill development (SEC), multi-disciplinary exposure (MD), and language proficiency (AEC). Students are advised to carefully review subject options provided in Annexures I to V, which are made available at the colleges.

In summary, Kashmir University’s 3rd semester registration under the NEP 2020 system presents a well-structured opportunity for students to continue or resume their academic journey. From the option to change subjects to support for older batches, this notification serves as a comprehensive guide for current and returning students alike.
